Archways in Fort Jefferson

A view of one of the long passages inside Fort Jefferson on the far western end of the Florida Keys on the Garden Key. The fort was built in the 1800s along one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world at the time. Initially intended for the defense of shipping through the Gulf of Mexico, it was also used as a military prison for a time.
